ABOUT 40 protesters staged a demonstration outside the Oxford Union as Wikileaks founder Julian Assange gave a talk via video link.

They were angry at the decision to book Mr Assange, who is wanted for extradition to Sweden over rape allegations, which he denies.

Mr Assange spoke via video link from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he is claiming political asylum, during an awards ceremony on Wednesday recognising people who show devotion to truth.

The Sam Adams award was won by Thomas Fingar, a former US official who reported in 2008 that Iran had halted its nuclear missile programme.
