WITNEY saw in the new year in style with pub-goers and clubbers celebrating the start of 2013.
Revellers were in good spirits in a packed Market Square as the clock struck midnight.
Among them was 16-year-old Kyle Frost, with about 10 school friends from Henry Box School, in Church Green.
He said: “It was really good. I decided to wear the penguin suit just for a bit of fun, because I had it and thought, why not? It was a good night. Everyone was in a good mood.”
Tom Chambers, 24, from Wootton, near Abingdon, said it was the first time he had sampled Witney’s nightlife.
He said: “I have never been to Witney before, I really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was really great.”
The festivities were later marred by a street fight.
Four people were arrested after the brawl in the town centre at about 12.30am on New Year’s Day. Police broke up the clash using pepper spray.
