'Senseless' vandals remove landslip safety barriers
9:30am Tuesday 8th January 2013 in News
VANDALS who have been moving safety barriers from the scene of a landslip have been warned they are putting people in danger.
The water-filled barriers are in place at the closure of Oxford Road, Hinksey Hill, to warn of severe damage.
Council chiefs believe the damage was caused because the sandy foundations and slope of the embankment became saturated by the significant wet weather.
The road was originally closed on December 20, but since then the road has cracked and a large hole has appeared.
The barriers, as well as signs, have been moved several times and the police have been informed.
Councillor Rodney Rose, deputy leader of Oxfordshire County Council, said: “This is senseless.
“We are talking here about a badly damaged section of road yet some people seem to wish to open themselves or others up to danger by messing about with barriers and signage.
“We want this to stop and if anybody sees anything we hope they will report it to the police.”
