Design chosen for Lions Club competition
7:13pm Sunday 6th January 2013 in News
A MEMBER of a West Oxfordshire Lions Club has won a competition to design a banner for the Palace of Westminster Lions Club.
The London club, which is made up of MPs, was formed five years ago and recently held a national competition to design its banner.
Carterton Lions Club vice president Michael Lowe’s design was chosen and will now be used at functions and visits both nationally and worldwide.
The announcement was made at a dinner in the House of Commons on December 19.
Mr Lowe said: “I was very pleased to have won but it was quite a surprise.
“We went to the charter dinner and the president was saying a few words about the club and said ‘As you know we have had a national competition and I am glad to tell you the winner is here tonight’. I was looking around at everyone else.”
It is the second success for the Carterton Lions this year, after the group received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The award recognised the group’s work in the community, which includes helping with arrangements for repatriation ceremonies at RAF Brize Norton.
