A POLICE investigation is under way after the body of a man was pulled from the canal in the centre of Oxford earlier today.
At about 11.40am officers were called to the towpath near Rewley Road after the body was spotted by a member of the public.
Police officers and firefighters were involved in the operation to retrieve the body of the man, who is believed to be in his sixties.
He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.
Police are not treating the death as suspicious at this stage and the incident is being referred to as "unexplained".
However, anyone who may have any information is asked to contact Det Sgt Matt Jarman on the non-emergency number 101.
If you don't want to speak directly to the police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
