JUDGES will be in the village of Bromham on April 16 to assess whether it is worthy of being crowned the Calor Village of the Year for England.

Villagers are putting the finishing touches to their presentation for the first round of the competition, which has a total prize fund of over £36,000 with £7,000 for the overall winner.

Bromham was invited to participate following its success in last years county event - the Calor Wiltshire Building Community Life competition and is up against 39 other villages in England.

Judges will spend no more than two hours in the village from 10am on April 16.

All the villages are being assessed on six different criteria: building community life, business, young people, older people, the environment and Information Communication Technology.

Bromham is competing against other villages in the west of England for the first round of the competition.

Selected villages will then be judged again during July.
