A PROJECT to provide help to Polish migrant workers in the Trowbridge area has been hailed a great success.

Joint funding from Government Office of the South West's Sparkplugs Innovation team and the West Wiltshire Community Safety Partnership led to 11 drop-in sessions being held at Trowbridge library between October and March.

They included presentations on a range of issues highlighted by the Polish workers as of interest.

Speakers included representatives from the Polish Consulate, Trowbridge Town Council, Wiltshire traffic police, citizens' advice bureau, the council's housing department and the Wiltshire fire & rescue service.

Ishti Turner, West Wiltshire District Council's community safety manager, said: "We have a growing number of Polish workers coming to the Trowbridge area, and this scheme aimed to provide them with the support they need to settle into life here.

"We were helped by a member of the Polish community, and interpreters attended each session to help with any translation needs."

A celebration event has been organised tonight to mark the end of the scheme.

Cllr Andrew Bryant, the council's community portfolio holder, added: "We wanted to help integrate the Polish migrant worker community with the wider community, and this project has been very successful in achieving this aim.

"I am hopeful that we will be able to run something similar again in the future."
