From Terry King
SIR. With others I am delighted to note the pleasure the use of the former Oatlands Park Cricket ground is bringing to residents of Oatlands and surround.
From my vantage point I witness daily mothers with young children and tennis players, who make use of the play and sports areas.
The older generations who live nearby now have a safe and pleasant area to walk in and exercise their dogs. It is our wish that the use of this ground will continue to flourish with the support of Elmbridge Council and those who use it.
The Friends of Oatlands fought for almost six years to preserve this leisure and amenity area for local use, much against the wishes of others and local Oatlands councillors who supported a larger development on this cricket ground.
The fighting fund so generously collected by the Friends of Oatlands still has a few pounds left. Elmbridge Council was offered a contribution towards facilities at the ground but did not respond. Should a local sports club supporting young people under the age of 14 wish to make a request for modest funding, my committee would be pleased to receive a proposal.
Please direct any proposal by email only to king@business-affairs.co.uk for consideration.
