Billericay Town boss Matt Jones has issued a defiant "don't question my players' attitude" message to club fans as the New Lodge side continue their promotion bid.

Town lost a 2-0 lead at second from bottom Walton and Hersham on Tuesaday night to be held 2-2.

The point gained keeps them well in touch in the fight to go up -two points behind the leaders with a game in hand.

But Jones admitted to being disappointed at criticism by "one or two" fans after the match.

He said: "The players were really down after they let Walton back into the game and it was my job afterwards to go in the dressing room and lift them.

"To be honest, reflecting on it afterwards, I would have probably have settled for a point beforehand.

"Having said that it was obviously a downer to lose a two-goal lead.

"I don't mind people criticising, myself or the team for mistakes, but what I won't have is people questioning the attitude or my players.

"It's their commitment that has enabled the club to be in this position of fighting for promotion and it's out or order for that to be questioned.

"I'm only talking about one or two, but it's vital we all pull together at this club over the last weeks of the season.

"We're still very much involved in winning the title, let alone claiming a play-off spot."
