DEDICATED Frank Bishop, who has just celebrated his 90th birthday, has spent a quarter of his life fundraising for the Stroud and District Lions Club.

The grandfather-of-one joined the organisation in 1984 when he moved to King's Stanley from Windsor.

And while he might be the branch's oldest member, Mr Bishop is an active member who can still occasionally be found shaking a tin outside local supermarkets to raise funds for various charities and organisations.

Mr Bishop, a Second World War medical corps veteran, looks back fondly over his years with the club.

"We generally supply a service where we can as well as collecting money," said Mr Bishop, a former accountant for EMI who has been married to his wife Olive for 66 years.

"We used to run stalls and we had a big barbecue which we used to take up to the commons when children had cross country meetings.

"And we have put on events like a casino nights at the Bear of Rodborough."

He says the club has some long-serving and very devoted members who have become his close friends and would recommend the organisation to those wanting to help others.

"If you have had a good job and been pretty healthy you want to give something back," he said.

"The Lions has a strong social side too so members get something back."
