A HORWICH man who has been charged with deception offences totalling more than £1 million has been committed to crown court for trial.
Melvyn Newton, aged 48, of Bridge Street, Horwich, has been charged with eight counts of obtaining money transfers by deception, three counts of obtaining services by deception and one count of using a false instrument, namely a UK passport.
Newton was committed for trial by Bolton Magistrates yesterday.
The sum of money, in excess of £1 million, is alleged to have been obtained in Scarborough, Blackpool, Fleetwood and Mold over several years.
Newton has denied the charges and will stand trial at Bolton Crown Court on Thursday, November 16.
He has been granted unconditional bail.
