DORCHESTER, who travel to Trowbridge tomorrow, are planning to give more of their promising Colts players a taste of Southern Counties South rugby now that their league place is virtually secure.

"We are suffering a bit from the usual end of season injuries so it is a good chance to use as many of the squad as possible and give some of the lads a chance," said assistant coach Mike Sprules.

"We had a friendly against the Bovington Bisons army side on Wednesday and one or two of the colts really stood out.

"They have to be 17 to play in the backs in senior rugby and 18 if they're forwards, so some of them aren't eligible until next season. But it was a good test for them and we will be looking to integrate them into first team training for next season."

Scrum half Nigel Thomas will have a fitness test on a bad back before Dorchester select their team to visit mid-table Trowbridge and Lee Harvey is also a doubt with an ankle injury.

Teenage winger Joe Legg, who caught the eye against Bovington, stands by for a possible call-up.

Bridport travel to Wootton Bassett in Southern Counties South tomorrow. To stand any chance of catching Dorchester and jumping out of the bottom two the Blues will have to beat the Wiltshire club, who sit second in the table behind Walcot.

Weymouth are keen to end their season on a much more optimistic note than they began it when they host North Dorset II, who are one place above the Seasiders in the Division One South table..

"We were a shambles at their place earlier in the season and were beaten heavily," said coach Barry Ross-Mackenzie. "But the club has improved since then and with a strong side on duty I am confident we can finish our campaign with a win."

Weymouth II are away to Poole in Dorset & Wilts Three South while Puddletown II are at home to East Dorset II in the same league.

Swanage & Wareham visit Cheltenham in South West Two East.
