Phil Lovell emails from Saltdean: "Going through some old photographs, I came across this one of Brighton's Preston United under-18s football team of 1950, managed by Tom Pentecost.
"I was saddened to realise how many of that team had passed away. Robin Cox, Len Grayer, Ken Hartridge, Eddie Morrill, Pete Philips and Pat Probert are no longer with us but I am still in contact with Mike Austin, Ben Stratta and John Keehan.
"Tom Pentecost was a milkman who lived in Kimberley Road, Brighton, and his wife washed the team shirts and acted as secretary. Tom was not a master tactician but his heart was in the game and he and his wife were loved and respected by all the youngsters who played for the club.
"In those days, National Service intervened in our lives, so players disappeared into the services shortly after their 18th birthday. However, many of us went on to play senior football and, after our playing days ended, some of us acted as coaches or team managers for various local teams.
"When I saw the photo, it occurred to me there may be other surviving members of the Preston United teams of the early-Fifties who would enjoy a beer and a few reminiscences.
"So, if Albie Poet, Bill Burton, Bob Waller, Tony Winyard, Buster Freeland, Jock McEwan or any others read this, perhaps they could call me on 01273 703972."
