A SPIRITED comeback was not enough to prevent a seventh straight loss for Warrington RUFC in South Lancashire/Cheshire Two.

Manchester opened the scoring with a try but Warrington replied with a penalty from Duncan Rickard and then had a try controversially ruled out.

The visitors then scored two more first-half tries to lead comfortably at the interval but Warrington came roaring back in the second half, with John Callendar scoring a rare try.

Neil Sullivan then crossed from a quick tap, with Rickard converting, to move Warrington back within two points but Manchester immediately responded with a decisive try.

Waterloo 3rd 29 Warrington 2nd 12.

WARRINGTON'S second string were beaten in Miller Homes League Division Two.

Waterloo raced into an early 12-point lead but Martin Tierney hit back with a try that was converted by Chris Douglas.

The hosts then moved further ahead before Williams had the last word with a try for Warrington.

Sandbach 4th 0 Warrington 3rd 36.

WARRINGTON'S try of the match was scored by 54-year-old Rick Hughes in their Miller Homes League Division Five South triumph at Sandbach.

Sean Hughes, John Chedd and Ryan Carter also crossed in the first half before Joe White added another try after the interval.

* Warrington's under 11s defeated Altrincham Kersal and Wilmslow in a round robin competition.

Joel Barker scored in both games, with Jack Gray also crossing in the 14-0 win against Altrincham.

Ben Hockenhull, Jacob Riley and John Morris were the others to touch down in the comfortable 28-7 victory against Wilmslow.
