PAUL Cullen wants Wolves to achieve one of their pre-season goals by clinching a rare victory against St Helens tomorrow night, Friday - and he believes Saints can be beaten.

Before Super League XII had even kicked off, Cullen outlined a desire for Wolves to secure a win against their fierce rivals this year after 16 previous unsuccessful attempts dating back to 2001.

He said then about 2007 that the big team we want to beat is St Helens' and Wolves' first chance comes in front of an already sold out Halliwell Jones Stadium tomorrow, kick-off 8pm.

Saints have won four trophies in the past 12 months - including the World Club Challenge - and blitzed Bradford in the first half of a 34-22 win at the weekend, although they have already lost league games to Harlequins and Wakefield this season.

But victory for Cullen's men would turn a good start to the campaign - they have now won three of their four games after a 19-12 triumph at Harlequins on Saturday - into a magnificent one and would put Wolves top of the table for the first time since March 2000.

Cullen, who has masterminded wins against all of the other Super League big boys during his time in charge, said: "It's important to us to beat St Helens because it's the only one we haven't done.

"They are the standard bearers and have raised the bar for everyone. They are the team we aspire to catch.

"They are the best team in the country going forward at the ruck and we have spent most of our week working out how we are going to prevent them dominating the ruck, then what we are going to do to them on the back of it.

"But they can be beaten because they've been beaten twice this season, although we don't read too much into those games because circumstances have since changed for the better for St Helens."

Cullen reckons Wolves will need to play twice as well as they did against Harlequins to beat a Saints side he thinks are even better than last year.

Chris Leikvoll (ankle) is said to have a 'very reasonable' chance of returning from injury for Wolves, although Richie Barnett (ankle) is not quite ready to return.

Chris Bridge will start at stand off after playing for 69 minutes on his comeback from injury at Harlequins, allowing Michael Sullivan to return to hooker, while Paul Johnson is available after illness forced him to leave the field on Saturday.

Lee Briers needs five points to pass 2,000 career points and is likely to resume goal-kicking duties after a troublesome groin injury led to Bridge taking over in the second half at Harlequins.

Wolves' 18-man squad: Stuart Reardon, Henry Fa'afili, Martin Gleeson, Paul Johnson, Brent Grose, Chris Bridge, Lee Briers, Chris Leikvoll, Jon Clarke, Paul Rauhihi, Ben Westwood, Vinnie Anderson, Mark Gleeson, Rob Parker, Paul Wood, Michael Sullivan, Steve Pickersgill, Mike Wainwright.
