Wadworth managers have grand plans to turn a Chippenham pub into a 15-bedroom hotel.

The Pheasant Inn, in Bath Road, owned by the Devizes-based brewery, currently boasts a wine bar and a sports bar as well as a function room.

Details of the planned construction are to be made public by Wadworth executives in the New Year.

People in the area have until January 25 to comment on the application but the plans have not yet met with any opposition from residents or councillors.

Liberal Democrat councillor Sandra Oakes chairs Chippenham Town Council's planning committee. The application is due to go before the committee on January 11. Mrs Oakes, of Wells Close, said: "Until I see the full application I cannot make a decision.

"From a personal point of view though, I cannot see it being problematic. It will not really affect anyone, as it is not close to many residents.

"They could build one extra storey without too much trouble but two storeys might be pushing it.

"If it went too high it might be visible above the bank which shields that area from the town centre.

"The major concern that is likely to crop up is the increase in traffic congestion."
