THERE is lots of talk these days about saving the planet and reducing our carbon footprint.

The cost of many of the methods that we can help to do this, such as fitting solar panels to our roof tops, is prohibitive to say the least.

Other ways we can save the world seem to involve us giving up our little pleasures in life, like our cars or the hard earned family holiday in the sun.

Now, I'm not saying that we should not do these things, but for the average man in the street it's very difficult.

There is a way, however, that we can all contribute to reducing carbon emissions and help our economy.

Buy British!

Goods produced abroad and shipped to Britain not only cost us our jobs, they also increase pollution.

Why buy lamb shipped across from New Zealand when you can buy locally produced or Welsh lamb?

Why buy a vacuum cleaner shipped across from India when you can buy one made in Scotland for a similar price with fewer miles on its "carbon clock"?

Why buy sauce made in Holland when we can buy British-made sauce and feel a sense of satisfaction that we are saving the planet and safeguarding our children's and grandchildren's jobs?

Come on, Bolton, buy British with pride!
