Eight drivers were arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in just a few hours.

Police charged seven motorists with drink-driving during a busy weekend in the Tendring and Colchester area.

It was said to be the highest number of drink-drive arrests the area has seen for some time, prompting traffic officers to renew drink-driving appeals.

PC Roger Manser, of Stanway road policing unit, said: "I would have thought that, by now, people know not to drink and drive, but we want to get through to the few members of the public out there who might still choose to take the risk.

"People need to think about the consequences, not only to themselves and other road users, but to their families."

All the arrests were made during Friday and Saturday night, and, although most drivers were from the Colchester and Tendring area, some were said to be from as far afield as mid-Essex.
