"Honouring the tradition, celebrating the present, looking fearlessly into the future" - those are the words that Sakoba use to define themselves and the work they perform as an African peoples' dance company.

This particular programme, made to mark the group's twentieth anniversary, is a wonderfully fresh, vibrant and uplifting example of how Sakoba's repertoire respects tribal heritage - the stories, the rhythms, the rituals - but acknowledges that the people of those tribes are now living in the 21st century.

One piece, for instance, uses music by international jazz/classical composer Tim Garland and a choreographic vocabulary that gives traditional African movement a contemporary twist - the result is dance "that has its roots in Africa and its heart in multicultural Britain today". And which totally delights audiences wherever Sakoba perform it.
