Amman United 19 Nantyffyllon 3 Asda National League Division 3 South West AMMAN United again improved in the second half to nail a deserved victory in a forgettable match played in dreary, drizzly conditions.

In a mainly forward-led battle, Amman's tricky backs, particularly Dean Williams and Gavin Lewis, were probably the main difference between the sides.

The visitors edged the first half but there was some excellent defence from Amman, with Chris Rees, Andrew Lacey, Carl Worsfold and Tom Davies putting in some stout defensive work.

Nant almost carved out a try, despite an unseen knock-on in the move, but Amman managed to clear.

In Amman's first real opportunity, centre Rhys Thomas and Dean Williams combined well, and Nant conceded a penalty on 35 minutes. Adrian Thomas made no mistake from a tight angle.

A forgettable half ended at just 3-0.

Centre Rhys Thomas took over the kicking duties to add a second penalty after the turnaround, but the visitors replied immediately at the other end to make it 6-3.

Adrian Thomas' drop-goal attempt drifted just wide, before a strong run from wing Stuart Herbert forced another penalty.

Rhys Thomas was on-target again for a 9-3 lead.

Amman almost gifted a chance when hooker Cellan Phillips unusually failed to find his man from a lineout, but Amman again cleared.

Nantyffyllon's flanker was then yellow-carded for persistent infringing and gaps began to open in a tiring Nant defence.

Gavin Lewis' jinking runs became a feature, as did full-back Dean Williams. Rhys Thomas' penalty gave United some insurance at 12-3, before Herbert got on his bike with a promising wing run from deep.

Dean Williams took it on, but there was no end-product this time.

Stuart Davies came on for Ross Smith with 20 minutes to go.

Carl Worsfold's charging run almost paid dividends, but it wasn't until the final minute that they finally got their try.

A superb fast break from midfield from Dean Williams and support from, who else but Gavin Lewis, was all too much for the visitors' defence, and Dean Williams went on to dive over for a very good try, Rhys Thomas superbly converting from the far touchline.
