REBECCA Craigie's flash finish helped Vale Royal Athletics Club grab bronze at the North of England Junior road relays on Sunday.

Her trio, also including Kathy Stringer and Nikki Meadows, were heading for a top seven placing after six miles of the U15s girls race, but Craigie swept by her rivals to pinch third spot.

They finished only four seconds behind winners Amber Valley, from Yorkshire.

Coach Shaun McGrath was delighted.

He said: "The finish was a real nailbiter.

"It was certainly one of the most exciting races of the day."

Middlewich's Megan Huxley posted one of the quickest individual times as the U13s girls took seventh spot.

Teammates Claire Perry and Robyn Ellis played their part as they came home before teams from top clubs like City of Leeds, Liverpool and Sale.

Andrew Perry, Eddie Crowther and Alex Bailey crossed the line in 27th position in the U15s boys race.

The U17s boys, consisting of Zach Cross, Chris Perry and Tom Heaward, finished 10th.
