CHIPPENHAM Town were held to a 2-2 draw by Hillingdon Borough in the FA Trophy on Saturday.

Goals from striker Dave Gilroy and captain Ian Herring were not enough to sink the Southern League Division One South and West side.

Chippenham fell behind after 10 minutes when Adam Garner failed to deal with a long ball and Michael Murray drilled a low shot past Chris Snoddy.

Paul Milsom missed a glorious chance to put the Bluebirds level when he volleyed wide from Kevin Halliday's curling flag kick. But Gilroy pounced five minutes later with a fine finish past Ben Harris to calm Chippenham's nerves.

The former Bristol Rovers front man should have scored again minutes later but his lob landed agonisingly wide of the left upright.

A hat-trick of fine saves by Snoddy at the start of the second half kept Chippenham in the tie as Hillingdon came out fighting.

The Bluebirds then scored against the run of play when Herring's mishit free kick bounced over the hapless Harris and into the net.

But the home side were level just 30 seconds later. Mark Kirby arrived on cue to lash a left foot shot into the top corner after Chippenham had failed to clear.

Both sides had chances to win the game, notably Gilroy for Chippenham, who was unusually wasteful in front of goal.

The replay takes place tomorrow at 7.45pm at Hardenhuish Park.
