LAST year was a whirlwind for Cookham band, Kid Galahad. They were showcased at High Wycombe's White Horse in April and since then have released three EPs, receiving critical acclaim from all quarters (including NME and MTV single of the week).

This is all good news for the four piece band who first met in the playground of Furze Platt Comprehensive, Maidenhead. They hatched a plan to soak up their collective influences and take the best bits, spin them around and end up with something truly inspiring.

There was a lot of gigging between now and then," explains vocalist Ash. " We weren't known as Kid Galahad then. We've been through a few metamorphoses. We started out playing covers and just messing around and adding in the odd song that we'd written and then it just kind of progressed. There was a moment, I guess about five years ago, where we thought that we could actually make something out of it so we decided to get a bit more serious. But we've only been Kid Galahad for about a year.

"The name comes from an Elvis film. There was an Elvis season on a while ago and we saw it and just thought it was quite funny. We were thinking about changing our name anyway - we were called Morph before, but just for legal reasons we had to change it. So we were thinking about prize fighters and boxers, 'king of the world, all that stuff and this Elvis film came on and it just seemed quite apt.

Kid Galahad are being hailed as the cream of the Nu British guitar band alongside The 45's.

The four-piece from Reading will be playing with Kid Galahad on Tuesday, March 5, from 9pm - or do you wish to miss the new sound of rock?
