ELEVEN people have been arrested this week after drug squads swept through properties across Lancaster and Morecambe.

The action was taken as part of the drug-busting Operation Nimrod, which saw four addresses in the Skerton area targeted yesterday (Wednesday).

Three people were arrested at those properties and were being interviewed last night in connection with the supply of class A drugs.

Detective chief inspector Martyn Leveridge says the police want to speak to another three people over the next few days.

Five men and three women were also arrested when police stormed premises on Chatsworth Road, Pedder Street, Clarendon Road and Westgate in Morecambe early on Tuesday.

Four were charged in connection with the supply of class A drugs and were due to appear before Lancaster Magistrates as the Citizen went to press on Wednesday.

The other four were released on bail pending further inquiries.

DCI Leveridge says officers found a small amount of cannabis, but stressed the aim of the operation was not to find drugs.

"We already have the information we need about the supply of class A drugs from undercover operations. Any drugs we do find are a bonus but we don't specifically look for them.

"We had evidence from test purchases where officers had been sold class A drugs and we acted on information from the public about activities regarding certain individuals before we executed the operation."

He adds that officers will look carefully at any further information they receive from the community and urges people to pass on information on 01524-63333 or Crime-stoppers on 0800-555111.
