TRAVELLING to work again on Monday morning it was good to see the parents out again in force, vying with each other to ensure their car was as near to the school as possible so their pampered kids don't have to walk any distance.

They somehow missed the idea that where they were parked, just on a corner, was in fact dangerous.

The little car park, just yards away was unused, except to turn the car around.

If they were going to turn round, why not park there, see the children across the road and not cause a complete nuisance by trying to come top in the Worst Place to Park a Car awards.

Worst of all is that they're not the worst drivers.

I was driving on the motorway for a lot of the weekend and getting stuck in traffic for most of it.

Being behind a long line of traffic did not stop many other drivers thinking I would get out of the way if they came right up behind me.

No prizes for guessing what colour of van they were driving.

Thankfully this does not bother me. I like to slow down, allow other cars in ahead and generally really annoy the driver before speeding off again.

It's sad but gives me a little satisfaction.

The problem is when it happens to other drivers, perhaps not used to motorways, and having to see some prat of a driver trying all his best to scare another motorist.

Presumably these drivers were the bullies at school and are now carrying it on in later life.

Another pet hate is the idiots driving in the outside lane of the motorway with the other lanes clear.

On Saturday, I was driving up to one such motorist. I had to pull out to get behind her and flash my lights after she failed to realise that there was a car trying to overtake.

Eventually, she pulled in with all the speed and alacrity of a tortoise on depressants.

But then, after I went past, she pulled back out again for absolutely no reason.

Never mind speed cameras. If police caught these idiots and made them take a course in being aware on the road, it might not cause a drastic reduction in accidents but it would cause a drastic reduction in most other motorists' blood pressure.

I also have a message to other drivers, whose favourite trick is to reach a roundabout and then go left or right without indicating.

Use your indicators. It's not difficult. The switch is located near the steering wheel. They're pretty helpful as well. Go on, give them a try.

I know I am not the world's best driver. OK, that's a massive understatement. But at least I try to be aware of motorists when I get behind the wheel. I just wish others could do the same and realise that there are other motorists on the road as well.
