A WOMAN army medic from Southampton has been killed in Iraq, it has been revealed tonight.
Private Eleanor Dlugosz from the Royal Army Medical Corps, was in a Warrior armoured vehicle returning from patrol near Basra when insurgents struck using an armour-piercing roadside bomb.
Pte Dlugosz, 19, was ''held in high regard by all who knew her'', the MoD said.
She was deployed to the Shaibah Logistic Base Iraq in November 2006 and returned to Iraq in March after completing a medical course in the UK.
She accompanied patrols into Basra, quickly gaining the respect of her colleagues, the MoD said.
''A strong, bright and capable young woman, she had aspirations to complete her A-levels and train as a medical laboratory technician."
The attack on the vehicle happened at 2am yesterday according to the Ministry of Defence.
A second woman - Second Lieutenant Joanna Yorke Dyer from the Intelligence Corps attached to the 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment - and two male soldiers from the Royal Army Medical Corps and 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment were also killed, along with a Kuwaiti interpreter.
