Improvements to a long-disputed patch of land may be in sight.

Demands had been made by councillors for improvements to Plumpton End, a cul-de-sac which once allowed motorists access from both Kings Road and Wrose Road, in Wrose The road was closed off to traffic at the Kings Road end three years ago after residents on Plumpton End complained that the narrow street was being used as a rat-run by motorists.

But the decision to close the road, which was made when the area was still part of the Bolton ward before the boundary review in 2004, caused a divide between residents.

Motorists continued to use the route as a short cut, simply driving over the new verge at Kings Road, badly damaging the newly-laid grass.

Bradford Council put up a fence to stop the problem, but many residents thought it to be out of keeping with the area.

A letter from the Council to ward councillors said bollards to replace the fence would cost around £6,000.

Street Scene have pledged to re-seed the grassed area and the possibility of planting mature trees is being investigated by Alan Mainwaring, the Council's strategic director of regeneration.

A letter detailing the possibilities has been sent to all residents at Kings Road asking for a response.

Councillor Vanda Greenwood (Lab, Windhill and Wrose) said: "If they are satisfied with that then we will pursue it through area committee."
