Actor Chris Ellison is asking people to buy a pin for charity.

Macmillan Cancer Support has devised a new green safety pin which has gone on sale at shops across Sussex.

Chris, best known for playing DI Burnside in The Bill and who lives in Brighton, said: "This pin really fits the bill.

"I hope everyone in Sussex will go out and buy one. They look great and raise money for people living with cancer too."

A spokesman for the charity said wearing the Macmillan green safety pin was a great way to show support for the charity and every penny donated would go towards its work in helping people affected by cancer.

Cancer is part of everyday life with more than a million people in the UK living with it today and many more others such as families, friends, carers and children affected as a result.

Macmillan helps by providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.

The Macmillan green pin is available for a suggested donation of £1 from Somerfield, JJB Sports and Whittards stores or by visiting www.macmilan.org.uk/pinup
