BOLTON South-east MP Brian Iddon has been getting on the litter trail in support of The Bolton News Bin It For Bolton campaign 2007.

The Bolton MP got his hands dirty when he took part in a litter pick at Kearsley Station earlier this week.

Dr Iddon said: "Litter is one of my pet hates and it's a problem I'm always being asked about when I'm out and about in the borough.

"What sort of impression does all this rubbish give to people arriving in the town?

"The council put a lot of time and effort into keeping the town clean and people need to be aware that in many cases the litter isn't always on council land and the land is privately owned.

"I definitely feel certain landlords and businesses could do more to clear up their land."

Readers have been contacting The Bolton News in their dozens naming and shaming the places they think are in desperate need of a clean-up.

The original Bin it for Bolton campaign, launched in 2004, led to a visible improvement in the town centre as more people started to use bins and £50 on-the-spot fines were introduced for anybody seen dropping litter.
