SEVERAL months ago I contacted my local councillor over an ongoing problem with the council which was having a detrimental effect on my business which is in his ward.

I received a three-line response saying he would chase this up.

Today we still have a problem and have not heard another word from Coun Paul Blanchard, who is obviously much too busy to worry about businesses and jobs in his ward, none of which really bothers me except every letter he writes reminds me why the Labour Party I voted for for 20-plus years is now lost to politically-correct zealots.

His attack on Dr John Sentamu over gay adoption focuses purely on the rights of the adults when the only people who matter are the children.

No matter how much it disgusts New Labour to hear it, the best place for a child to be brought up is with a loving mum and dad, or among family.

Likewise, Coun Blanchard's praise for Hugh Bayley for his support of the Government on an elected House of Lords was like stating Judith Chambers has a passport; its obvious.

He always votes with the Government no matter who we invade. We don't need a House of Lords full of nodding donkeys, we need people like Dr Sentamu who are not chained by political correctness and dare speak out regardless of ruffling a few feathers.

I agree with Coun Blanchard on foie gras, although why not start a campaign that would help the tens of thousands of animals each week ritually slaughtered without pre-stunning to produce halal meat. It's appalling that this suffering produces silence from so-called animal lovers in the name of political correctness.
