THE planning committee at Taunton Deane Borough Council has voted in favour of removing the egg factory in Roman Road to build a nursing home.
Planning officers had recommended refusal of the proposed home, instead urging for the land to be used for business units.
The site has been derelict for nearly five and a half years having had two previous planning applications for residential housing rejected because they did not provide employment on the site.
Landseekers Limited submitted a proposal to Taunton Deane Borough Council to build the home which would create 70 jobs.
The planning committee recommended refusal of the plan because of the lack of need for such a home and it would rather promote new businesses that would "improve skill levels of the local population".
