A MUSIC revolution is taking place in Lyme Regis and there's Sweet FA anyone can do about it.

Music lover Fran Marsh and local DJ Ayvin Rogers wanted to bring people together and get them dancing, so they set up Sweet FA Productions, an entertainment team promoting original live music.

Fran said: "We have both always been interested in music and dance and we are both really community orientated people, so we like putting on events that bring people together across the towns.

"We want to get people out, get people dancing and get live music in Lyme.

"We just get pleasure and enjoyment out of dancing, music and bringing people together - perhaps you could call us social entrepreneurs."

With the help of the Marine Theatre's artistic director, Margie Barbour, they already have three events lined up, guaranteed to get people strutting their stuff in the aisles.

Margie said: "When Fran and Ayvin approached us with Sweet FA Production's ideas for live music it was clear they could work with us to expand our programming even further."

Fran added: "Margie has been a great team player.

"She has got real energy and she is really keen to build up the idea of getting people out.

"I would say it certainly looks optimistic for the future of the Marine Theatre with Margie at the head."

The first event at the theatre on Good Friday is the Bristol-based Mankala, a high-energy, Afro-Caribbean band, supported by the popular DJ Funk.

The second event in September, which has yet to be confirmed, is a band called The Voodoo Trombone Quartet and the third event has also yet to be confirmed.

"It's all going to be upbeat, easy dance music so it reaches out to as many people as possible," Fran said.

"We have gone for music that we like but is going to reach lots of people. It could appeal to lots of age groups - it's music for everybody.

"We are looking for good numbers. Lots of people we know will come and we have people coming from everywhere - Honiton, Yeovil and Dorchester.

"We want to expand the geographical area we cover further than Lyme and Bridport."

Two young volunteers will also be helping Fran and Ayvin bring live music to Lyme - Lora Pascoe, 17, a student at Sir John Colfox School is helping with visuals, and Hannah Garner, 21, a music and English student at Southampton University is helping to promote the event and writing performance reviews.

Fran said: "I am always keen to involve young people and give them opportunities of work experience. If anybody wants to help or be involved then contact us."

Anyone interested in helping or purchasing tickets can contact Ayvin at Fuego on 01297 443933.

Tickets are £10 and are also available from the Bridport Record Centre, Martian Records in Honiton, and Axe Record Shop in Axminster.
