CAMPAIGNERS travelled by boat to West Dorset District Council in Dorchester to deliver their application for a new eco-settlement.

Eco-warriors worried about climate change are proposing to build a low impact site featuring a boathouse, jetty and small boat on land at Hooke near Beaminster.

They arrived at district council offices in High West Street in a towed boat to hand over their plan to director of planning and environment David Evans.

Members from climate action group Survivors South West and the Chalk Corner Collective dressed for severe weather conditions for the handover.

Representative Graham Ellis said: "We're supporting this eco-settlement project because of its positive benefits to the community in light of current predictions of accelerated climate change.

"We're trying to enter into dialogue with the council to find out how we can go forward with this project. It's vital in our fight to adapt to climate change."

Coun Evans said: "The district council is very aware of the issues of sustainability and the need to act locally to tackle climate change, and is committed to doing what it can.

"We always welcome the opportunity to discuss innovative proposals with applicants to see what options could be acceptable."
