THIRTY-THREE new homes are on the way to the Gwendraeth Valley after county planners gave proposals the go-ahead - despite villagers' fears about over-development.

The application, for the homes to be built on a site off Waterloo Road, was given the green light at a planning meeting in Carmarthen last week.

The all-clear was granted despite concerns over the access and highway safety in general.

Other worries included the effect on the environment as well as the sewer capacity.

The overall development will consist of a housing mix varying from two bedroom terraced dwellings to four and five bedroom detached dwellings.

Local county councillor Sian Thomas insisted the new development should be made available for local people at affordable prices.

"I am thankful that the developers have agreed to enter into negotiations with Menter Cwm Gwendraeth to see how this can be achieved," she added.
