A RECORD number of walkers and supporters stepped out last weekend to raise money for charity.

A total of 268 people put their best foot forward for this year's annual Transplant Walk' to raise funds for the Kidney Wales Foundation (KRUF).

The five-mile hike started and led by Ammanford's mayor Councillor Irena Hopkins, included walkers from Llandovery, Llandeilo, Penygroes, Cross Hands, Tycroes, the Amman Valley and Ammanford.

Some kidney patients walked, while others acted as marshals or gave out certificates to the walkers.

The CarmarthenshireTrefoil Guild for retired guiders, registered the walkers.

The Ammanford and District Kidney Wales Committee wish to thank everyone who took part and, in particular, Ammanford Police and St John Ambulance who carried out their duties with devotion.

The group is also indebted to Ammanford Scouts for the use of their hall, to the local traders who provided refreshments and to all those generous people who dug deep into their own pockets to sponsor the participants.
