LUKAS Jutkiewicz's sale to Everton was a no brainer' in Paul Sturrock's eyes with both club and player benefiting from a fantastic deal.

The Town boss said however much it hurt, supporters had to realise that only a minority of sides could avoid the tag of being a selling' club and Swindon Town were not one of them.

Jutkiewicz, who entered the fray as a half-time substitute in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Grimsby, will join the Toffees on a four-year deal at the end of the current campaign.

And far from being a furious manager railing against directors who had cashed in without his say so, Sturrock is adamant that it was an opportunity which could not be spurned.

He said: "This deal is a no brainer.

"I think it's a fantastic move for the lad, I think it's a fantastic deal for the club.

"We've got exceptional money.

"We've got solid cash over three years and the same amount again if he plays in the first team and was to play a certain amount of games.

"I've been led to believe he will be a squad player for that team next year, which means he'll train with the first team.

"If he was to progress the way I'm hopeful he will, we'll get more cash and there is a very substantial sell on percentage.

"If he's a success there we benefit, and if he's a Wayne Rooney and goes to Manchester United, we get a wad.

"There's no way we could have stood in this lad's way.

"This is an opportunity that comes along very few times.

"We've got him to the end of the season and we're hopeful of negotiating some deal that if he was to come back out on loan again we would get first offer.

"I think we've been professional in the way we've done it.

"I've done all the negotiations with Everton. We started low and got higher as we went on.

"There was comment made by certain board members as well, should we keep him? But that money is of great benefit to us.

"We have to stand up and be counted at times and appreciate what is good for the club.

"Can people tell me right at this minute that Lukas will be a fantastic player for Swindon Town over the next few year?

"You can't guarantee me that.

"We are hopeful that through selling Lukas that we (as a club) financially get better, we also might be able to bring a couple more players in because of it to benefit us over the longer term.

"As the manager it's up to me to find a few more Lukas Jutkiewicz's.

"As for Lukas, I'm very hopeful he will now have the pressure taken off him and he will now become an integral part of this team from now to the end."
