AN MP has stepped up his campaign to save a local tax office threatened with closure.
The future of the Harrogate office of the Revenue and Customs is under review and the 75 people who work there could be transferred to Leeds or Bradford.
Local Liberal-Democrat MP Phil Willis has now tabled a Commons motion calling for the office to be retained and describing it as a much-valued service for the local community.
"I know from my postbag that there is a lot of concern in the local community and I am sure there are others in Harrogate and Knaresborough who will be seriously affected by this proposal," he said.
"The quality of the service that is offered by the staff at the Harrogate office is very high and closure would lead to much higher costs for local businesses and individuals, who would have to travel to Leeds or Bradford for advice.
