Hindley u14 6 Halton Farnworth Hornets u14 24.

TRAVELLING away for the fourth consecutive week, the Halton Farnworth Hornets under 14s rugby league team nipped to Hindley to face a side who beat them at home earlier in the season.

With their first attacking action and venture it to the HFH half of the pitch, Hindley scored a fine try with the conversion sailing over.

There were some noticeable pieces of action from the HFH players in the first half.

Good hard runs by Ryan Gardam and Mike O'Brien brought HFH close to scoring several times.

Tom Spencer had a good linking-up game, coming in from the wing to give the forwards a rest.

His deceptive running style ensures that most of the time, he is able to keep the potential tackler wondering what to expect.

James Parle seems to get better with each game and has settled in extremely well with the squad.

On one set of six, the Hindley players were unable to move anywhere when Jimmy Hilton, who now seems to relish the wing position, put in five consecutive tackles to demoralise the Hindley team.

With the half time whistle sounding, Hindley were happy to be leading 6-0.

In the second half Mike Bailey put in a cross-field kick, which was scooped up by Parle who scored out wide.

David Meadows, who was chasing a HFH kick on the last tackle, met the Hindley ball collector head-on.

Although outsized, Meadows managed to seize the ball from the Hindley player's possession.

Meadows produced a quick play-the-ball, allowing a try for his captain Ryan.

Not to be outdone, Mike O'Brien mirror imaged Ryan's try by performing the same feat Cassidy enjoyed the challenge of ball player and threw out some fine balls from the play the ball' positions.

Jordan Holland had a tricky first half but came good second half.

Johan Curzon, Ste Shone and Jack Williams all had excellent performances and never stopped.

Phil Smith's performances are now starting to resemble the old Smithy' prior to the numerous injuries he's collected.

Price started to settle down in the second half and put in a lovely cross-field kick, which was collected by Meadows who ran behind the sticks before putting the ball down. Ryan got the conversion.

From the restart, Hindley tried a high kick but the wind caught it and took it back into their half of the pitch.

Price gave it his left foot and outpacing the Hindley players, one of them pulled at his jersey and allowed another Hindley player to pounce on the ball.

Giving a free kick to HFH, Mike Bailey came steaming through to score his second try.

The remaining substitutes played their part, getting introduced to the game in the second half and getting stuck-in.

Daniel Clegg, James Giblin and Scott McKeown all played their part in a fantastic victory.

MOORFIELD produced a great team performance before this weekend's Development Plate semi-final, scoring six tries in awful weather conditions.

A determined Moorfield side made the perfect start with Michael Bannerman reading the play well to link up and score the first try, which was converted by Lewis McLarney.

Some awesome defending by all the Moorfield team stopped Culcheth in their tracks.

Danny Stapleton crossed for the next try after a typical evasive run, while the conversion from Ben Dunning in the driving rain was fantastic.

A great restart kick from Lewis McLarney earned Moorfield possession, with Ben Dunning, Liam Hill, Ryan Dyas and Matty Hignett driving the ball closer to the line where, from the next play, John Taylor scooted and set up Joe Woods who powered over for a well-worked try.

Culcheth threw everything they had at Moorfield but the home side's defence stayed resolute and when Moorfield gained possession they went forward with great pace.

Lewis Gleave made a great run down the wing, backed up by a quick break from Chapa Kalawo and a good run from Lewis McLarney which eventually earned Moorfield a scrum on the Culcheth 10m line.

Loose forward Matty Hignett produced a move straight from the training ground to take the ball from the scrum for a well deserved try and a 24-0 lead.

Culcheth came out a much more determined side in the second half and were rewarded when their speedy full back Sean Clarke darted down the left wing to score a great try, which was converted.

Birthday boy Kieran Fenlon made a break and was unlucky not to score.

From the play the ball Lewis McLarney kicked accurately to the left where the ball was caught by John Taylor, who drew the defender and offloaded to Michael Bannerman who with great vision set up the eager Liam Hill who dove over the line for a well-worked team try that made the score 28-6 to Moorfield.

The scoring was finished off when Connor Morris capitalised on a quick play-the-ball to speed over for a great opportunist try.

Moorfield's player of the match award went to Lewis McLarney for a brilliant kicking display as well as putting in his best tackling stint of the season so far.

Most improved player award went to Michael Bannerman after some good tackling, great awareness and strong running which was rewarded with a great try.
