TWO local teams powered their way to into the final of the North Midlands Plate to set up an intriguing local derby.

Semi-final victories for Bromsgrove and Droitwich at the weekend means local rugby fans have a tasty treat to look forward to at the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground on Sunday, April 22.

Both sides had to work hard in wet and muddy conditions to book their place in the final but it was Droitwich who won by the largest margin with a 35-0 victory over Dudley Kingswinford on Sunday.

Spa got off to a flying start when captain, and man of the match, Tom Stedman touched down in the opening minutes.

Jack Pomroy extended his side's lead when he ran under the posts, before Chris Rouse handed his side a 31 point lead by half time.

Droitwich continued to press forward and Barry Francis and Pomroy made sure of a place in the final. Bobby Scott-Walker converted five tries to made sure of Droitwich's progression.

Bromsgrove showed their spirit and battling qualities to see off Birmingham and Solihull 15-3 on a very muddy pitch.

Constant rain meant that Finstall Park's pitch had become a mudbath, which both sides relished playing in during a ferocious cup tie.

It was the visitors who started the stronger but dogged tackling and defending meant that Birmingham could not find a way through.

Bromsgrove found some momentum with a series of drives and from a scrum Barney Parker popped up to touch down to make it 5-0.

The Boars were then able to take advantage of playing down the slope in the second half and piled the pressure on Birmingham.

Tom Warman grabbed a close range finish, before Harry Meads was driven over for the third try.

Birmimgham tried to hit back but staunch Bromsgrove kept them to a solitary penalty, despite increasingly wetter conditions, to set up the enticing prospect of taking on Droitwich in front of a big crowd on their own ground.
