I HAVE recently had the unfortunate experience of falling foul of cyclists taking no notice at all of red traffic lights.

Both incidents happened on the same junction - between Monkbar and St Maurice's Road - as I was cycling home.

In both cases, gentlemen came down St Maurice's Road and, with complete disregard for the safety of any other road user or themselves, ran the red lights and whizzed straight over the four-way junction.

The first tme, I was actually hit in the leg by said cyclist, and all I got was a mouthful of abuse, despite the fact he was clearly in the wrong.

Thankfully, I was not hurt, just shaken and furious.

Will these cyclists learn that just because they are not in cars, and just because they are doing their bit to reduce congestion in the city, they are not exempt from the rules of the road they are cycling on?
