A STOURBRIDGE music company is boosting a borough tourist attraction by bringing a classical superstar to the region.

Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins has teamed up with concert promoters Factory 5 for a groundbreaking gig at Dudley Castle.

Up to 3,500 people will be able to see the show in the courtyard of the historic site.

Staff at the castle and zoo are looking forward to developing a close relationship with Factory 5 who have pledged cash from their shows to help support conservation work.

Dave Bennett, from Factory 5, said: "We are very excited, this is the perfect venue for this type of show and promises to be a special event. Katherine loves the idea of playing in the castle.

"The site is a valuable asset to the borough and we want to put some funds back in to help with regeneration."

Julia Lockett, from Dudley Zoo, said: "It is the first time we have done anything like this, we are pleased to be able to use the courtyard and show off what we have here to attract new customers.

"Any funds will go back into animal welfare for conservation projects on the site."

Katherine will be singing at the castle on Saturday July 9 with a 32-piece orchestra, surprise guests and a lavish light and sound show.

She is an established A-list star and topped the classical charts in 2004 with her debut album before breaking into the pop charts with her second release, Second Nature.

The castle will also be hosting The Australian Pink Floyd Show on Saturday September 1 and Factory 5, who are based in Worcester Street, are currently in negotiations to bring more top talent at the venue for 2008.

Tickets to see Katherine are available from all usual outlets with prices starting at £20.
