I wonder how many of your readers are underwhelmed by the comments of the Go-Ahead chief executive about fares and services (Life, Feb 21).

Whilst prices of tickets continue to rise well above inflation, Keith Ludeman's response is there is nothing he can do about it. What about ploughing some of your profits into providing more carriages, Mr Ludeman?

When Southern was originally awarded the francise they made bold statements about what they were going to do, hinting at an extra platform at Redhill and restoring the off-peak Brighton services.

This was going to be the result of the private investment that the privatised rail services were supposed to bring to the area. But where is this private investment?

Worryingly, Southern do not seem to have a standpoint on the future of the Gatwick Express either.

The airports are incredibly effective at lobbying Government; they have saved the Gatwick Express already once and they will be pushing to do so again.

While Mr Ludeman stands and watches Redhill could lose its remaining fast off- peak trains.
