THREE teams short of its usual baker's dozen, the annual MAST Pancake Race still managed to put on a flipping good show.

Ten teams of four took part in the 11th Shrove Tuesday relay race in Macclesfield town centre, bringing in the crowds and raising about £1,750 for MAST, the Macclesfield Hospital charity, which will deliver its third ultrasound scanner to the hospital any day now. A new appeal will be announced shortly.

Janet Ward, MAST appeal organiser, said: "It was a great day. The weather was kind to us and although we had fewer teams it was still very exciting.

"The team from Josolyne and Co looked as though they were going to repeat last year's success, but on the last stretch of the final they were pipped at the post by the Flippin' Tossers from Macclesfield Borough Council's sports and leisure department."

The winners were presented with the Batterpan Trophy by the Mayor of Macclesfield Borough, Cllr Jim Crockatt.
