TWO students from Richard Huish College are through to the top 16 teams in the country in a debating competition.
Marc Kidson and Joe Rylands won the regional round of the School Mace Debating Competition at Blundell's School in Tiverton by proposing the motion "this house would tax goods proportionate to the amount of CO2 produced in their production".
The duo was opposed by Kingswood School while Millfield and Blundell's debated televising criminal trials.
Marc and Joe now go on to the semi-finals.
Karen Revans, Huish Mace Co-ordinator said: "It was delightful to see articulate young people debating the crucial issues of the age with such intellectuality and strength of argument.
"No commentator could hold that there is a lack of depth and concern in young people if they watched such events."
Principal, Dr Peter Avery said: "Marc and Joe have debated outstandingly in this competition and I am sure they will impress in the final rounds."
