Callum Riley proved he is Clitheroe's chip-chomping champ after coming tops in a race to celebrate National Chip Week.

The seven-year-old gobbled down the most chips at a contest held at the Mitymore chip shop in Woone Street.

He wolfed down 50 grams of chips in a minute, beating his older brother Curtis, 10, by five grams.

Contestants could only eat one chip at a time and had to use a fork.

Afterwards Callum, of Talbot Close, said: "They were roasting hot. I'm still hungry though!"

The event was held to celebrate National Chip Week, organised by the British Potato Council.

Tim Wells, who runs the shop with his wife Romy, said: "The week is to promote the goodness of fish and chips.

"They are still one of the most popular fast foods.

"It is a traditional British meal."
