THIS stunning picture shows a Pawlett soldier battling it out against more than 100 top armed forces skiers in a recent competition high in the French Alps.
Private James Cox, from the 2nd Logistic Support Regiment, was competing in the British Army Alpine Ski Championships at Serre Chevalier.
The 19-year-old (pictured, inset) tackled an event which "calls for skill, dedication and daring" and includes downhill, slalom, giant slalom and super giant slalom races He said: "It is hard going, racing at this level, and I only took it up a couple of years ago, but we trained hard at other competitions to qualify for the Army Championships.
"I never expected to get the chance to do top-class skiing, it gives you a real buzz - I will definitely be back on the slopes."
Former King Alfred School pupil James has now returned to his base at Gutersloh in Germany.
