The nation awoke one morning to read, with much glee and admiration, of one Declan Purcell, who had had enough of being continually ripped off by unwarranted bank charges.

There followed a battle of wits between him and the bank, who kept dodging the issue. Finally, he decided this stalling was getting nowhere, so our lone hero decided on direct action.

Following the motto of the elite SAS ("Who dares wins"), he sent in the heavy mob, by way of the bailiffs, who regained his hard-earned cash from the lofty bank manager.

His tenacious manner in pursuing a legitimate claim is an object lesson to us all that we should not give up the struggle against those greedy corporate bodies who are forever seeking ways to extract even more money from our bank accounts.

I feel his action should be commended to the Speaker of the House of Commons, with a rider to the effect that we should applaud this man who spoke for the masses - and saved them a lot of money in the process.

The Lord Chancellor's Office should be advised, with a recommendation that he be included in the next honours list for service to the citizens of this United Kingdom against the money moguls.

I am not joking.
