WELL-WISHERS in Nelson held a fund-raising day for a family of asylum seekers facing deportation.
The day, at Christ Church, Carr Road, was in aid of Nigel and Pearl Karim, 53 and 44, and their children Crystal, 14 and Calvin, 12.
The family fled to the UK five years ago and fear they will be killed because of their Christianity if they return to Pakistan.
They have twice failed in attempts to stay in the UK and their case is going through a review.
The Karims' plight has gained huge support from the community in Nelson and the church, where the family worship, organised the event to raise money to help fund their fight.
