Chippenham Mens A 9 South Glos 0

CHIPPENHAM Mens A team entered the Festive period with a stunning 9-0 victory over South Gloucestershire.

Chippenham started the quickest of the two teams and put pressure on the South Glos goal. But some poor finishing by Chippenham combined with some good saves by the Glos goalkeeper, kept them out. But within a few minutes, Chippenham found themselves two goals up. The goals coming from Guy Barrett and team skipper Mark Knight.

Chippenham then continued to charge forward looking for more goals but they did not succeed as they were guilty of overloading the visitors D with players.

South Glos rarely made any threatening attacks and some good defending from Neil Stewart, Matt Cloke, Courtney Wilding and youngster Jack Barns from the Chippenham Badgers team kept them at bay.

Chippenham added two more goals before the half-time break. A penalty corner from Tim Harris and from close range, Barrett scored his second of the afternoon.

The second half saw more attacking hockey from Chippenham and more goals. Knight added two more to complete his hat-trick after some good play from midfielders Gubbins, Borman and Barrett.

For the second week running, Chippenham played with ten men after a opposition player was injured from a short corner and they sportingly gave them a player.

But despite being a player down, Chippenham continued to display strong attacking hockey as they had all game and Liam O'Keefe swept the ball in from a tight angle.

Simon Gubbin also got onto the scoresheet with a thunderous strike from the top of the D and Knight rounded off his afternoon with another goal from a well-worked short corner routine.

Chippenham will play Stroud next Saturday in a final friendly before the Christmas and New Year break.

Man of the Match: Jack Barns - for a solid performance playing in his first senior game.

Chippenham Ladies 2nds 1 Salisbury Ladies 1st/2nd 5

CHIPPENHAM Ladies second team played a friendly on Saturday against a combined Salisbury Ladies 1st'/2nd team players.

Chippenham started well and the game was pretty much evenly balanced for all of the first half.

It was Chippenham who opened the scoring with a gaol midway through the first half when Cath Walker took the ball deep into the Salisbury circle before laying it off to the waiting Mary Derrick. She deftly slipped the ball past the goalkeeper, but Salisbury replied with an equaliser right on the stroke of half-time.

The presence of several Salisbury first team players began to wear down Chippenham in the final stages of the game. Taking advantage of a tiring Chippenham team,. Salisbury were able to break through.

Defenders Fiona Wanliss and Gemma Lillis did a fine solid job in defence and minimise the onslaught, but the pressure finally told and they could not prevent some fine individual efforts by the visiting strikers.

Player of the Match: Fiona Wanliss

Team: Gemma Lillis, Fiona Wanliss, Terri Davey, Kate Potter, Zoe Kerwick, Rhiannon Roberts, Alice Hopper, Helen Dolman, Cath Walker, Mary Derrick, Jade Jackman and Ellie Copeland.
