Westfields 3 Pegasus Juniors 0 WESTFIELDS booked a semi-final place in the HFA Senior Floodlit Invitation Cup and will now meet Hereford United after seeing off their near rivals Pegasus on Tuesday evening.

The victory completed a quick-fire double for Westfields who beat their Sport Italia Hellenic League Premier Division visitors 2-1 in the HFA County Challenge Cup last month.

Westfields got off to a great start when Scott Jackson headed in a Matt Beale cross.

The home side could well have extended their advantage before the interval when Paul Burton rattled the Pegasus bar from close range and Matt Beale headed wide from six yards.

Pegasus staged a rally after the break and did their best to get back into the game, only to founder on the strong Westfields defensive pairing of Jon Hill and Anthony Rivett.

An inspired substitution by the Westfields management team of Sean Edwards and Darren Lynch then paid quick dividends.

Chris Jefferson was introduced instead of Burton and the replacement made an immediate impact when he headed in a Mark Hibbard cross on 70 minutes.

With Ashley Day and former Pegasus player Jamie Cuss establishing control of the midfield, Westfields began to dominate and extended their advantage five minutes later.

Leading scorer Mark Davis beat two defenders before calmly slotting the ball past goalkeeper Bryn Watkins to put the result beyond doubt.

Both sides worked hard in the closing stages but it was the home team who came closest to finding the net again when Jefferson went close in the final minutes.

Westfields now look forward to entertaining their Football League neighbours Hereford at allpay.park for the first time in the new year.
